Frank Palm: Education aids economy

July 31, 2013

Eroding progress

In Eastern North Carolina, we are working hard to rebuild our economy. We are focused on economic development, we are focused on increasing our tourism and we are focused on improving the education outcomes for all our residents.

We have made great strides in improving the coverage and cost of broadband for our residents and our companies. We are a leader in using technology to improve our education. We have recruited many residents to be tutors and mentors in our schools.

We struggle with years of poverty. Too many of our students arrive at kindergarten not ready for that activity. But our school system slowly but surely pulls many up to and ahead of grade level. To ask us to do more with less funding will not work.
