Beer, Bourbon, BBQ

Get your fill of 60 beers, 40 bourbons and God-knows-how-many pounds of barbecue at the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival this weekend at Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Admission gets you a souvenir glass and unlimited beer and bourbon tastings. Tasting seminars, live music, contests and exhibits will provide the backdrop for a hog-wild weekend.

6-10 p.m. Friday and noon-6 p.m. Saturday; 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary; beerandbourbon.com

Melons and museums

Join Auggie the pig and the rest of the gang at Durham’s Museum of Life and Science in celebrating Watermelon Day 2013.

Bring your own melon and animal keepers will feed it to the barnyard animals! Plus, enjoy a special melon-y menu at Sprout Café and experiment on the fruit in a lab. Did you know that every part of the watermelon – even the seeds and rinds – is edible?

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday; 433 Murray Ave., Durham; lifeandscience.org

Clothes for a cause

Naudre Agency promises a “bigger than ever, better than ever” Blue Pasura Fashion Show to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Hospital at the North Raleigh Hilton. Expect to see fresh faces and fierce fashion.

7 p.m. Sunday; 3415 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh; naudre.com

Art in the park

Head to the Historic Yates Mill County Park for arts and crafts activities that reflect the park itself. At the park you will be transported to the days of the agriculture boom and learn all about the local history. The park is a wildlife refuge and environmental research center with educational exhibits and gardens, so come ready to learn.

1-4 p.m. Sunday; 4620 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh; 919-856-6675

Under the sea

The VaudeVillain Revue presents “Enchantment Under the Sea” at Durham’s Motorco Music Hall. Narwhals, sailors and “upside-down” mermaids abound at this show for all ages.

Everyone will be entertained with burlesque, live music, circus acts and more.

9 p.m. Saturday; 723 Rigsbee Ave., Durham; motorcomusic.com
