Mary Jane Marshbanks: A lesson to GOP in parable

A lesson in parable

Rob Christensen’s July 21 column, “Berger and the GOP’s holy grail” reminded me of a line from one of President Harry Truman’s campaign speeches in 1948. Yes, trickle-down economics was the Republican Party’s economic policy even then.

President Truman said, “The Republican policy is let the big fellows get the big incomes and let a little of it trickle down off the table like the crumbs fell to Lazarus.”

All those legislators who tout their religious credentials during campaigns surely know how that parable ended. It’s too bad they don’t believe it.
