Party like it’s 1899
Get your local history on at the 4th Annual Summer Children’s Festival at the Duke Homestead. Arts and crafts, music, Locopops and animal friends from Piedmont Wildlife await families looking for some free afternoon entertainment. Play dress-up in period clothing, meet members of the police and fire departments and learn how to make cookies “the old-fashioned way.”

Fire Trucks on Parade
Count the Dalmatians at the 2013 Fire Truck Parade in downtown Raleigh. Fire trucks from all over the state – antique to present-day models – join to celebrate firefighters during the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo. The trucks will be on display after the parade at the corner of Lenoir and South streets.

Sample from more than 70 vendors at the Food Truck Rodeo in the heart of downtown. This roundup has been featured in Southern Living magazine, and this time it’s bigger and better than ever. The rodeo area will span more than 10 blocks and provide more porta-johns and street seating. Yee-haw!

It’s ARTspo, yo
Grow creatively at this family arts festival at Raleigh Little Theatre’s Rose Garden and Amphitheater. Performances of spoken word, dance and music as well as drum circles and arts-and-crafts stations will spark the creativity of every member of the family. Half of the festival’s proceeds will go to the Durham Youth Alliance.

Tim Wilson, the self-proclaimed “comedian, songwriter, philosopher, musicologist, theologian wannabe and curmudgeon” brings his “clean comedy” act to town. Wilson has sold more than 500,000 comedy CDs and has appeared on “The Tonight Show.” Stop by Goodnights for some country chuckles.
