After an inspection of plant equipment revealed no threat to the safe operation of the facility, Shearon Harris nuclear plant personnel terminated the Alert condition, according to a news release from Duke Energy Progress.

The reactor unit is stable and operating at a reduced power level of 91 percent while recovery actions continue, the company said.

Officials at the plant in Wake County declared an alert at 3:05 a.m. Thursday when a malfunction resulted in the loss of power to non-safety related equipment, the company said.

No radioactive materials are being released as a result of this event, the company said.

The plant is located on Harris Lake near New Hill.
