Durham woman charged with murder in July shooting death

From staff reportsAugust 13, 2013

— A law-enforcement task force Monday arrested a Durham woman on a murder charge in the July shooting death of a man who lived in the same house she does, city police said.

Martha Townsend-McGee, 47, of 204 Mutual Court was taken into custody by a U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force that found her in Fairmont in Robeson County, Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.

Townsend-McGee is charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Maurice Arnold on July 11.

Police found Arnold dead inside the Stewart Square apartment about 12:30 a.m., they said.

Later that day, they said they did not believe it was a random shooting, but they did not name a suspect.

Townsend-McGee was expected to be returned to Durham for a court appearance.
