RALEIGH — A high school student was being held on $300,000 bail Tuesday on charges that he twice stole high-priced sneakers at gunpoint in Raleigh earlier this month.
Police arrested Whalion Derane Dewberry III, 17, of 4501 Avenida Del Sol Drive in Raleigh early in the morning after questioning, according to an arrest report.
Arrest warrants charge Dewberry with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
According to the warrants, Dewberry put a gun to the back of the head of a man while sitting in a car Aug. 1, demanded his possessions, and got two pairs of Nike sneakers valued at $729.
Police also said that Dewberry was the person who pointed a gun at the chest of a juvenile victim Aug. 5 and took two pairs of sneakers valued at $320.
Dewberry is due to begin classes later this month as a rising senior at Wakefield High School, Wake County Public School System officials confirmed.
