Girl, man shot as she answers door at Wake County home

From staff reportsAugust 14, 2013

— Wake County sheriff’s deputies are searching for two men who knocked on the door of a mobile home on Old Stage Road early Wednesday morning and shot a teen girl and her father who live there.

Andrew Bass, 32, was treated and released from WakeMed in Raleigh, according to Wake sheriff’s spokesman James Stevens. His 13-year-old daughter, whose name deputies are not releasing due to her age, suffered serious injuries.

Her condition was not immediately available.

Two men, one wearing a gray coat and the other wearing a do-rag, went to 11113 Old Stage Road about 1:30 a.m. and shot the teen when she opened the door, Stevens said.

The two then went into the home, shot Bass, and fled, investigators said.

Investigators did not release more distinguishing details on the suspects, such as hair style, facial hair, skin tone or tattoos.

Stevens would not disclose a motive for the shootings. “That’s part on the investigation,” he said.

He said, however, that investigators believe the shooting was not a random crime.
