Thirteen local high school students received scholarships this year from the Kiwanis Club of Cary.
Stephanie Lamm of Cary High School was the first place finalist in the club’s scholarship competition, earning $2,500. In second place ($2,000) was Anupama Warrier, also of Cary High School. Kathleen Dougherty of St. Thomas More Academy in Raleigh earned third place and $1,500, and Kathryn Armstrong of Green Hope High School in Cary came in fourth place and earned $1,000.
The club’s scholarship committee chose 13 semifinalists from among all applicants and selected finalists based on interviews, academic and extracurricular achievements and activities outside of school. The finalists were invited to speak to the Kiwanis club on “Tips and Advice for the College Freshman,” and the finalists were ranked based on their speeches.
The other semifinalists also received scholarship money. They were Abigail Bell, Samuel Feldstein and Graham Lewis of Cary High School; Lara Coole and Jill Green of Panther Creek High School in Cary; Paula Crisp and Neil Wathore of Apex High School; Christine Nam of Raleigh Charter High School; and Kevin Xiao of Green Hope High School.
