Five-year-old boy shot on Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh

August 18, 2013

— A five-year-old boy was shot in the foot as he walked down Rock Quarry Road Sunday, police said.

Investigators were still investigating the incident Sunday afternoon, said police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan. The boy, who was not identified, was walking with two older males, whom he knew, Hourigan said.

“We’re still trying to figure out all of what happened,” she said. “When you hear an innocent five-year-old, or any child, being hurt, it’s sad.”

Police first responded to a report of shots fired in the 1800 block of Rock Quarry Road just before 12:30 Sunday, according to a statement.

The child’s gunshot injury was not life-threatening and the two males with him were not hit.
