You almost told the truth in your Aug. 9 editorial “Lend again.” You almost let on that the government-sponsored Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were the root of the economic disruption of 2008. Then you went on to pooh-pooh the tea party for being opposed to big government. Your logic is mangled, because the government authorized, backed and encouraged these institutions in the behavior that so grievously affected our country. The tea partyers are correct. Just look at the results from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac! I suppose it is now acceptable to discuss them, since one of the main recipients of their political largesse has been twice-elected as president.
