Steve Kagan: Contributing to free market system

Free market system

Everyone is talking about the salaries of Ricky Diaz (DHHS Communications Director) and Matthew McKillip (Chief Policy Advisor to the DHHS secretary). Reality check: Both men graduated from excellent undergraduate universities with degrees in Economics (Diaz) and English (McKillip). McKillip served as a research assistant at the American Enterprise Institute.

Why are we demonizing their success? Unemployment is nearly 9 percent in North Carolina, and these young men have jobs.

I don’t know either one of them, but I am proud of their achievements (like their parents).

Let’s remind ourselves that these men pay their “fair share” of federal, state, local, Social Security and Medicare taxes on their income so that others (who are less fortunate) can continue to receive their much-needed governmental benefits and unemployment checks.

Imagine that ... the free market system at work.
