Margaret Grace Massie and John Shepherd Fain were united in marriage on July 13, 2013 on the Mountain View Terrace at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina. The Reverend Robert Duncan Fain, the groom’s uncle, of Augusta, Georgia performed the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Wallihan Massie of Bristol, Virginia. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Toole Fain III of Raleigh. Grandparents of the bride are Mrs. Karl Thomas Smith and the late Mr. Smith of Bristol, Tennessee and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wade Hampton Massie III of Washington, Virginia. The groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Toole Fain, Junior of Hendersonville, North Carolina and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Benjamin Rhodes of Walterboro, South Carolina.
Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore her mother’s wedding dress. Attendants included the bride’s sister, Gwen Meredith Massie of Richmond, VA as maid of honor, the groom’s sister Catherine Ramey Fain of Raleigh, cousins of the bride Emily Smith Mangus of Roanoke VA and Elizabeth Black Smith of Asheville, Ashley Tamara Berkovich of Atlanta, GA, Adelaide Hall Couch of Charleston, SC, Caroline Allen Estill and Lauren Paige Gabosh of Denver, CO, Alexandria Lynn Hernandez of Miami, FL, Marlea Thompson Kent and Sarah Elizabeth Yarnell of Chattanooga, TN and Melissa Scalzo Whiteside of Charlotte.

Music was provided by the Café String Quartet and soloist Michael Christopher Doody.
The reception followed on the Mountain View Terrace. The parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner and dance on the eve of the wedding.
The bride is a graduate of the Baylor School, Chattanooga, TN and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in experimental Psychology and an Educational Specialist degree in school counseling from the University of South Carolina. She is employed by the Wake County School System. The groom is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School in Orange, VA and North Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He is employed by U. S. Senator Kay R. Hagan. The couple reside in Raleigh.
