When I saw the letter, “Ordinance a hindrance” in your Aug. 24 edition, I was appalled. I understand that there are regulations that must be followed for issuing a permit, but what heartlessness was shown by refusing to issue a permit to Human Beans to allow them to feed our neediest citizens? What was the regulation used to deny the permit? When and how did it get on the books? What actions can be taken to temper the ordinance to show compassion?
I pray that this was a misunderstanding by a low-level bureaucrat than an actual ordinance on the books. It would be shameful to deny aid to those in need.
