    • Legendary Tar Heel State band Bluegrass Experience closes the Bynum Front Porch Series season Friday in Bynum. On Saturday, the band’s guitarist/singer/songwriter Tommy Edwards will provide free outdoor music at the Roost at Fearrington Village from 5 to 8 p.m.

The term “supergroup” is more often applied to rock bands than to bluegrass groups. But the Grascals, twice voted bluegrass music’s Entertainer of the Year, is worthy of the moniker. The acclaimed sextet – comprised of veteran ’grassers Terry Eldredge, Kristin Scott Benson, Terry Smith, Jamie Johnson, Danny Roberts and Jeremy Abshire – delivers the goods with original songs and cleverly crafted classics. The band has toured as Dolly Parton’s road band, and it wowed its own fans with song of the year “Me and John and Paul,” as well as “Life Finds a Way,” the title track of its latest Rounder Records CD. On Thursday, the Grascals will show why they rate as a bluegrass supergroup when they perform at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. For more information, visit artscenterlive.org.
