Two held in Georgia on charges connected to Garner slaying

From Staff ReportsAugust 29, 2013

— Police say a man and woman have been taken into custody in Georgia on murder and accessory to murder charges in the shooting death of Kyevon Daites Frazzell Gayles near town police headquarters.

Gayles was shot outside an apartment complex July 31 and died five days later.

Wednesday, police said Ramon Antonyo Black and Ciara Timesha Jefferies were arrested last week in Savannah, Ga., where both live, and were being held there temporarily.

Black, 25, is charged with murder, and Jefferies, 24, is charged with being an accessory to murder.

After Gayles, 35, was shot outside the Westchester Apartments across Seventh Avenue from the police station, police said they were looking for a black suspect thought to be in his 30s and for a car that carried the shooter away from the scene.

Police have been tight-lipped about the investigation, announcing Gayles’ death two days after he died at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh and waiting until this week to announce the arrests.

Black and Jefferies are in the Chatham County, Ga., jail while officials prepare extradition papers, police said.
