Duke gets $10 million for dining pavilion

From staff reportsAugust 29, 2013

— A $10 million donation will go toward a new dining pavilion at Duke University.

The mostly glass structure, completed this summer, is named for the donors, trustee Bob Penn and his wife, Katherine of Dallas, Texas, the university announced Thursday. The Penn Pavilion is next to the Bryan Center on West Campus and is expected to be a destination for student events.

The building will be used as a temporary dining space while the university completes a renovation of the West Union building. Duke is spending $80 million on construction and renovation of student entertainment buildings, including upgrades to Page and Baldwiin auditoriums. That project is funded by a gift from the Duke Endowment.

Bob and Katherine Penn are 1974 graduates of Duke and their three daughters attended Duke.
