Edward Gaines: McKillip impressed veteran committee

Impressive McKillip

Regarding the recent stories on DHHS official Matt McKillip: A bipartisan group of health care providers and professionals with decades of experience volunteered on the governor’s DHHS Transition Committee last fall.

McKillip was the committee’s liaison to the governor-elect and the prior administration and a key part of the committee. We spent hundreds of hours researching issues, meeting with key stakeholders and preparing white papers for the governor to address several of the most monumental changes to the health care sector in half a century, including Medicaid expansion and the health care exchanges.

McKillip worked with the committee to amass and articulate complex changes to the state – and we could not have been more impressed with this young man.

Several stories have been at best disingenuous and, at worst, mean-spirited and personal, suggesting that a man of his age, education and experience is unqualified or not valuable to DHHS. We could not disagree more. We witnessed first-hand not only his tireless work ethic but also his intelligence, quick study and grasp of complex issues and sense of humor.

We are proud to have worked with McKillip and would be proud to have him as our colleague.
