Hearing Gossman

The Aug. 22 Point of View “A bishop who chafed at the ban on female priests” by Yonat Shimron used the death of our beloved Bishop F. Joseph Gossman in an attempt to advance a discredited cause that was long ago rejected by most practicing and faithful Catholics.

Gossman was a shepherd who was loved by his flock. Shimron seems to have confused his love for his people with her own political and social agenda. She is correct for when he did speak, it was in measured tones, not only on the social justice causes, as does the church, but on all moral and ethical issues. Unfortunately, there are many who have “selective hearing” and hear only what they choose to hear.
