Don’t mix religion, politics

I suppose that when ministers in clerical garb appear at political rallies, they intend to suggest that the Jesus they follow shares their political views. At such recent events, that would imply that Jesus was a good, post-Enlightenment, progressive, liberal Democrat. Maybe. But I wonder where Jesus was standing a few decades ago when Democrats opposed most civil rights legislation. It’s history! Such is the peril of claiming Jesus as a political icon – he will not allow it.
