Robert Johnston: Better teachers, better pay

September 7, 2013

More for better

I read with interest the Sept. 3 Point of View article “A teacher’s work is never done” by Dori Barefoot and agree that some teachers do extraordinary work in preparing and teaching our students. Let me repeat “some.”

These teachers should be paid a great deal more and be given recognition for their outstanding work so others may emulate, while others should be fired. Who is to blame? School boards, unions, parents, school superintendents and anyone who has input to our school system.

Unfortunately, no one wants to step out and make the hard decisions of removing our poor teachers and increasing the pay of our best. To that point, we will continue to hear about teachers’ pay year after year.
