A group of Boy Scouts from Troop 845 in Carrboro recently returned from a summer-long bike trip that took them from one U.S. coast to the other.

The group, featured on the Thumbs Up page in June, started in Havre de Grace, Md., and ended in Seaside, Ore. – a total of 3,345 miles. But more importantly, they racked up over $34,000 in donations for UNC’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, exceeding the goal of $30,000 they set before starting their trip in early June. And donations are still coming in, said Brian Burnham, the trip’s leader and guide.

The group – which called itself “Lucky 13” to mark the year 2013 – included Paris Buedel, Kyle Ferriter, Jack Jansen, Hugh Kelley, Wes Malinchock, Arthur Mouw, D.J. Recny, Caleb Roenigk, Miles Rosen, Holden Selkirk and guides Brian Burnham and Aidan Kelley.
