Governor honors High Riders club

The High Riders 4-H horse club of Johnston County was awarded the Governor’s Medallion Award, the state’s highest award for volunteer service.

According to the citation, "volunteers in this club have served with Special Olympics North Carolina for 18 years. They are equestrian coaches and loan their horses, show clothes and tack to the athletes." The club also plays Santa each year for local children in need and holds an open house with rides, crafts and refreshments.

Members of the High Riders are Kyla Barritt, Rachel Bolen, Ella Braundell, Mia Braundell, Elloree Brown, Ashley Bunch, Chandler Coughlin, Emily Crumpler, Darcy Dean, Cassie Edwards, Catherine Golden, Brenna Gwynne, Morgan Hussey, Lauren Hussey, Becca Jackson, Leah Jackson, Kaela Palmer, Olivia Schexnayder, Samantha Schexnayder, Emily Worth, Kyra Worth and Nicole Worth.
