Amy Marie Callahan and Brendan Riley Young were married May 11, 2013 at 2 pm at the Basilica of St. Lawrence in Asheville, NC. Father Wilbur Thomas officiated the ceremony, and the vocal soloist was Erika Wuerzner, an opera soprano from New York City. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Grove Park Inn. The bride is the daughter of Ms. Donna Marie Callahan of Raleigh and the late Thomas William Callahan. The groom’s father and step-mother are Mr. Robert Arthur Young, Jr. and Mrs. Shari Young of Wauwatosa, WI, and the groom’s mother and step-father are Mrs. Mary Beth VandenBush and Mr. Craig VandenBush of Germantown, WI. The bride was escorted by her grandfather Nicholas Polowitz. She wore a gorgeous French ivory Alençon lace gown lined in a beautiful champagne silk shantung designed by Romona Keveza. It featured delicate off the shoulder lace sleeves with a v-neck and back. A champagne sash accentuated her waistline. The fit and flare silhouette gracefully swept into a chapel length train. Mrs. Lisa Vitale of Camillus, NY, the bride’s sister, served as her matron-of-honor. Mr. Robert Kissee II of Raleigh, friend of the groom, served as best man.
The bride graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA where she received a B.A in Marketing and was a member of the cheerleading team. She is currently a Learning Solutions Consultant with Pearson Education. The groom graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, where he received a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and was a member of the Wisconsin Marching Band. He is currently a Nuclear Reactor Operator with Duke Energy at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant. After a honeymoon trip to the Amalfi Coast of Italy, the couple is residing in Raleigh.
