Durham teen charged in fatal accident

— Police have charged a 17-year-old who was involved in a fatal accident on the north side of Durham last week.

Amina Baker of Durham was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield the right of way, police announced Tuesday.

Police say the Toyota RAV4 that Baker was driving south on Stadium Drive shortly before midnight on Sept. 2 collided with a Ford minivan headed west on Horton Road. The minivan spun and overturned, throwing its driver, Rubia Hernandez Portillo of Durham.

Portillo was pronounced dead at the scene. A man riding with her was taken to the hospital with what police said were not life-threatening injuries.

Baker was unhurt.
