David Streifford: Standoff staged

Standoff staged

The Sept. 5 headline “Veto overrides spark sharp words” gave me a chuckle. The Gov. Pat McCrory-N.C. legislature standoff (re: drug testing) is entirely theatrical, scripted by a committee of speechwriters.

It’s really quite creative! It shows McCrory has a backbone (no more “Rubber Stamp Pat”), and it permits Sen. Phil Berger and Speaker of the House Thom Tillis to beat their respective chests in preparation for the campaign against Sen. Kay Hagan.
