A Matt Hedges own goal proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Colorado Rapids rallied for a 2-1 victory over FC Dallas at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes which saw both sides struggle to generate quality scoring chances, FC Dallas broke through in the 51st minute when David Ferreira slammed home a well-placed cross from defender Jair Benitez.
But Colorado found an equalizer in the 59th minute when Vicente Sanchez beat FCD goalkeeper Raul Fernandez with a low strike for his first goal in a Rapids kit.
The deciding moment came in the 65th minute when Sanchez moved up the pitch to pressure the Dallas defense and forced a mistake from Hedges, which wound up in the net to put the Rapids ahead.
FC Dallas had a chance to pull it out of the fire late with a set-piece opportunity in the third minute of added time, but the free kick was parried away by Irwin to preserve three points for Colorado.
