Sydney Stafford Cooke and Scott McTyer Cowart were united in matrimony on June 15, 2013 at Fearrington Village Gardens in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Carol Pimentel of Asheville officiated.
The bride, escorted by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James David Cooke, Jr. of Wake Forest, North Carolina. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Ward Ottley, Jr. of McLean, Virginia and the late Mr. and Mrs. James David Cooke, Sr. of Lovingston, Virginia. Sydney is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the UNC School of Nursing.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lamar Cowart, Jr. of Big Canoe, Georgia. Scott’s maternal grandparents were the late Carolyn Cook Weisbecker of Fayetteville, North Carolina and the late Charles Weisbecker III of New York City, New York. His paternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lamar Cowart of Jacksonville, Florida. Scott is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and the UNC School of Nursing.
Heather Klomhaus-Hracs of New York was the Matron of Honor. Lauren Gould of Wake Forest, Flore Huber of Fribourg, Switzerland and Tandy Solomon of San Francisco, California were bridesmaids. The best man was Christopher Hunter of Raleigh, North Carolina, brother of the groom. Jim Cooke of Wake Forest, brother of the bride, John Cooke of Norfolk, Virginia, brother of the bride and Brad Sherrill of Atlanta, Georgia were groomsmen. Nieces Rachel Cooke and Arya Hunter, as well as nephews Ryan and Nathan Cooke, were participants.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents on Friday evening at Vimala’s Curry Blossom Café in Chapel Hill. The reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at the Fearrington Village Barn where music was provided by Arioso Strings and the Carolina Catbirds. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests, accompanied by Paperhand Puppets, paraded to the reception to the tunes of a New Orleans-style second line band. The bride and groom made their first entrance as Mr. and Mrs. Cowart on a vintage tandem bicycle. The evening ended with lively square dancing.
The couple honeymooned in New Zealand for two weeks. The bride and groom are nurses at area hospitals and live in Chapel Hill.
