Fran Salmon: GOP not invited

GOP not invited

The writer of the Sept. 16 letter “Not sharing ‘dream’?” chided the Republican Party, “whose forebearers include Abraham Lincoln,” for not participating in the events honoring Martin Luther King Jr. “It speaks volumes about the Republican Party,” he said.

The events in Washington were organized by members of the Obama administration, which issued invitations. If Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice or George W. Bush didn’t show, it’s because they weren’t asked to come. Not one member of the Republican Party was invited to join in honoring King. It speaks volumes all right, but it speaks volumes about the Democrats.
