Area fishing report

Oregon Inlet

Offshore boats caught good amounts of white marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna and dolphin. Inshore boats brought in speckled trout, puppy drum, bluefish, cobias and amberjack. Nearshore anglers also had success with blues and Spanish. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301,

Beach anglers reported puppy drum, black drum and sea mullets biting along with scattered bluefish in the morning and evening. Inshore fishing reports includes bluefish, flounder, Spanish, a few trout and puppy drum. Offshore boats continue to catch nice wahoo and dolphin. Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Dolphin and wahoo continue to bite for offshore anglers. On the head boats, grouper, triggerfish and sea bass are all doing well. Close to the port wall, flounder and sheepshead are being caught. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678;

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Along the beach, Spanish have been caught through trolling. Surf anglers caught good amounts of red drum, flounder, blues and pompano. In the inlets and creeks, specks are biting. Offshore boats have brought in good king mackerel, grouper, sea bass, dolphin and wahoo out near the Gulf Stream. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763,


Falls Lake

Fishing in the area has been scattered, with largemouth bass being caught on spinnerbaits early and jigs later in the evening. Crappie are biting anywhere from 12-16 foot depths on minnows. White bass have been caught north of the Highway 50 bridge on blade baits and rooster tails. Catfish have been caught on nightcrawlers and blood baits, but have all been small. Kerr Lake

Largemouth bass are biting at medium depths on crankbaits and spinner baits. Catfish are biting in the river channels on nightcrawlers. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 299.24, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381;

Shearon Harris Lake

Largemouth bass continue to bite on deep-diving crankbaits and spoons. Crappie are biting on minnows and soft plastics. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255;
