Police order toxicology tests for woman killed by car in Chapel Hill

From staff reportsSeptember 19, 2013

— Police said Thursday that witnesses told them that a woman killed by a car near University Mall on Wednesday night appeared to be intoxicated before the accident happened, but they are awaiting test results before ruling alcohol was a factor.

Lisa Renee Baldwin, 41, of 107 Creel St. died at the scene, near the intersection of South Estes Drive and U.S. 15-501.

Police were called at 8:24 p.m., they said.

A police spokesman, Sgt. Bryan Walker, said witnesses told investigators that Baldwin had been staggering and appeared to be intoxicated shortly before.

Police ordered toxicology tests as part of their investigation, Walker said, and would not rule alcohol in or out until they get the results.
