Raleigh man charged with computer sex solicitation

From staff reportsSeptember 20, 2013

— Police charged a 26-year-old Raleigh man with soliciting sex online from what they said he believed was a girl under 16.

Samuel Dennis Frederic Parks of 1231 University Court was arrested on Jenks Road hear N.C. Hwy. 55 shortly after 4 p.m., according to an arrest report.

An arrest warrant does not say if a police officer had posed as a young girl online, but police working in cybercrime units often use the technique when trying to identify suspects they believe are trying to lure children into sexual situations.

The warrant sworn to by Detective Josh MacMonagle cites a section of law that says it is a crime for anyone “commands a person he believes to be less than 16 years old” for the purpose of a sex act.

Parks is also charged with soliciting sex by computer.

Parks was being held in lieu of $60,000 bail and was scheduled for a court appearance Friday.
