Gospel has always been a key part of bluegrass, a style that lends itself well to African-American spirituals. So for the 11th and penultimate entry in our pre-IBMA “Bluegrass for Beginners” survey, we have a spectacular 1955 version of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” by the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe, and his Blue Grass Boys.
