Wakefield quarterback Evan Brabrand leads Friday night heroes

Player of the week: Evan Brabrand of Wakefield completed 29 of 46 pass attempts for 445 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-24 win over Middle Creek. The Wolverines piled up 579 yards in total offense.

Play of the week: Tyree Manuel of Athens Drive scooped up a fumble and returned it 81 yards for a touchdown in a 41-29 win over Green Hope.

Defense of the week: South Granville held Carrboro to 78 total yards (27 rushing) in a 43-0 win.

Special player: Erwin Triton junior Juwan Thompson returned a punt 99 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in a 27-21 win against Gray's Creek.

Johnny Frazier, Princeton: Scored three touchdowns and rushed for 192 yards in a 42-41 win over Clinton Union. Vicente Mendez kicked the winning extra point after Frazier ran 40 yards for the tying touchdown.

Beau Barger, Wake Christian: Completed 14 of 22 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 14 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-26 win over Hobbton.

Joel Evans, Durham Riverside: Rushed for 214 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 37-31 double-overtime victory over Apex.

Rondell James, Apex: Had 171 yards rushing and three touchdowns, one interception and one blocked extra point in a double-overtime 37-31 loss.

Nyheim Hines, Garner: Ran for 231 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 61-19 win over Enloe.

Damarus Williams, Fuquay-Varina: Rambled for 191 of the Bengals’ 353 rushing yards in a 31-14 win over Clayton.

Dorrel McClain, Panther Creek: Scored five touchdowns and rushed for 214 yards in a 34-21 win over Leesville Road.

Kendall Hinton, Southern Durham: Passed for 282 yards and four touchdowns in a 39-27 win over Northern Durham.

Cole Sakowski, Corinth Holders: Completed 24 of 29 passes for 290 yards in a 26-21 win over Pikeville Aycock.

Luke Massei, Green Hope: Passed for 368 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-26 loss to Athens Drive.

Garrett Smith, South Johnston: Passed for 195 yards in a 33-7 loss to Fayetteville Cape Fear.
