Leslie Selbst: Fuel for debate

Fuel for debate

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to extend subsidies for farmers who grow ethanol to fuel cars and then voted to remove $40 million from the food stamp program, which subsidized poor families. Many who qualify for food subsidies work full time at minimum-wage jobs, are veterans who can’t find work or are innocent children. Feed cars at the expense of feeding people? Shame on them.
