Cruz wasting time
With a limited number of days to resolve our nation’s debt issue, I find it remarkable how Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas chose to spend this time. Cruz recently spent over 21 hours speaking against a national health plan while referencing Dr. Seuss and other nonrelated topics (“Senate votes to debate budget,” Sept 26 news story).
Ironically, Cruz represents a state with the nation’s largest percentage of uninsured citizens, according to the Washington Post. A full 26 percent of Texans have no health insurance compared with the national average of 17 percent. Texas has over 6.3 million uninsured, equal to the entire population of Massachusetts. Of Texas’ uninsured, 63 percent are employed in jobs that provide no insurance.
Cruz might better spend our Congress’ time resolving the nation’s debt issue and then tackling the health insurance problems in his own state.
