— The Canes made an interesting personnel move early Sunday morning, obtaining forward Kellan Tochkin and a fourth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Draft from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Zac Dalpe and Jeremy Welsh.

Tochkin, 22, had 15 goals and 29 assists, plus 61 penalty minutes, in 56 games with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League (CHL) in 2012-13.

The Canes also waived forward Chris Terry at noon Sunday with the purpose of sending him to Charlotte of the AHL. If Terry clears Monday at noon, he will join the Checkers.

Originally signed by Vancouver as an undrafted free agent on July 27, 2009, the 5-10, 176-pound Tochkin played four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Everett, Medicine Hat and Prince Albert prior to turning professional, totaling 243 points in 253 career WHL games.

A native of Abbotsford, B.C., Tochkin led all WHL rookies in scoring in 2008-09 with 74 points (20 goals, 54 assists) in 72 games.

Welsh was signed as a free agent out of Union College and had an NHL contract this year guaranteeing him $1 million.
