Chapel Hill police dog briefly goes missing

Kearny, a Chapel Hill Police Department canine, is missing from a Durham County yard.

— The Chapel Hill Police Department briefly was looking for a police canine named Kearny, who escaped a fenced-in yard in Durham County at about 2:30 p.m. Monday. The dog was reunited with its handlers on Monday evening.

The 6-year-old Belgian Malinois was wearing a chain collar but no identifying tags. The canine, also known as a Belgian Shepherd Dog, has a light tan coat with black markings and resembles a German Shepherd. The dog was last seen in the Parkwood area of Durham County before being reported as missing.

No other details were immediately available.
