Bruce Vukoson: Fulghum off base

October 1, 2013

Explanations, please

Regarding Rep. Jim Fulghum’s Oct. 1 letter “Truth trumps hypberbole”: So Fulghum feels “slandered” by Dr. Charles van der Horst’s claim that he and fellow lawmakers will be responsible for unnecessary deaths by refusing to expand Medicaid benefits to a half million of our residents? Perhaps he can explain how his party’s decision will improve health care for this group. I would also be curious as to how his support for this position adheres to the Hippocratic Oath he said he took.

As for the “made up” oath van der Horst quoted, it’s the Oath of Maimonides, widely chosen by many graduating medical school classes, including mine in 1977.
