Local groups offer public forums on the Affordable Care Act

Posted by John Murawski on October 3, 2013

Local hospital officials and lawyers will offer a series of three public forums on the Affordable Care Act for people interested in signing up for subsidized insurance under the new healthcare law.

The free events, sponsored by UNC Health Care and Legal Aid of N.C., will include an opportunity for those in attendance to schedule a private consulation with a trained “navigator” to help with enrollment.

The forums, to be held in the Triangle and in Siler City, will go over the basic provisions of the Affordable Care Act, including subsidy qualifications, penalties, exemptions and basic elements of insurance, such as a premium, co-pay and deductible.

The first forum is scheduled tonight, Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 100A at Rex Hospital, 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh.

Additional forums are:

Oct. 8 -- UNC Department of Family Medicine, Auditorium, 590 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill.

Oct. 10 -- Chatham Hospital, Community Room, 163 Medical Park Drive, Siler City.
