Leesville Road may have found an adequate replacement at quarterback for the injured Braxton Berrios.
Malcolm Hitchcock, making his first varsity start, rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Pride over visiting Broughton 42-14 Friday night in Cap-8 conference play.
Leesville (4-2, 1-1) used a steady diet of rushes and Hitchcock made the most of it with 231 yards on the ground. The senior QB only threw three passes but connected on them all, including a 33-yard score to Nate Duell. The TD pass put the game out of reach late in the third with the Pride leading 35-7.
Leesville led 14-7 at half thanks to big scoring plays of 77 yards by Mike Dehaney and 58-yards by Hitchcock.
Leesville opened the second half with 21 unanswered points. Hitchcock had rushing scores of 60 and 32 yards, followed by his touchdown pass to Duell.
Broughton (0-6, 0-2) was led by quarterback Patrick Kearney’s 201 passing yards.
Kearney also ran for one touchdown and passed for another, but the Pride picked off Kearney three times and forced a fumble recovered by Leesville’s Brock Pyper, who also had one of the interceptions.
