Some local elementary students were among 13 statewide whose artwork was chosen for the N.C. Farm to School 2013-14 calendar.
Farm to School is a state government initiative that secures locally grown produce for school lunch programs. The calendars display agriculture-themed artwork from students as well as daily agricultural facts.
The artwork for February 2014 is by Takyra Coffin, a fifth-grader last school year at Bethesda Elementary in Durham. March 2014 is by Elise Warren, a third-grader at Timber Drive Elementary in Garner. May 2014 features artwork by Gayathri Achar, a second-grader at Cedar Fork Elementary in Morrisville.
The contest was open to all public elementary students in North Carolina. The winners received $50 gift cards. The winning artwork will be on display in the Agriculture Building and at the N.C. State Fair later this month, and calendars are available at the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services or as a printer-friendly download at ncfarmtoschool.com.
