Harold McKinney: BF and AF water

BF and AF water

N.C. residents are being told by the Republican administration that our water will be tested after fracking. If there is no baseline data on the quality of the water before fracking, how will any change in water quality after fracking be assessed? Are we to assume that the refusal of money for a pre-test is indicative of an “ignorance is bliss” approach to environmental science in N.C?

I propose that we all sterilize quart jars and fill them with water from our springs, wells, streams and lakes. We can then seal them and label each with the source of the water and the date it was collected. Then when we need to know what the water was like before fracking, we will have the needed evidence. At that point it might be interesting to see whether our Republican friends would rather drink the “before fracking” or “after fracking” water.
