Lane closures slated as 401 bridge replaced

— Lane closures are planned for U.S. 70/401/N.C. 50 in south Raleigh starting Monday, state transportation department workers replace the U.S. 70/N.C. 50 bridge over U.S. 401. The closures are set for 9 p.m.-6 a.m. the next morning:

* Monday: Two right lanes of N.C. 50/U.S. 401 South/U.S. 70 East closed just north of Chapanoke Road;

* Tuesday: The same lane closures will be in place except they will go from just south of Chapanoke Road to just north of Tryon Road; and

* Wednesday and Thursday: U.S. 70 East will be closed just past Tryon Road. Motorists will have short detour onto U.S. 401 South, then left onto Mechanical Boulevard back to U.S. 70 East. This closure is needed to install a new overhead bridge structure and remove the old structure.
