Lochte has won 11 Olympic medals, including five golds, and has medaled in each of the past three Olympics. He will be the most-decorated Olympian to ever live in Charlotte.
Lochte, 29, has trademarked his catchphrase “Jeah,” which roughly means “Yeah!”
Lochte has been overshadowed for much of his career by U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, who has won 18 gold medals – more than any other Olympian ever. Phelps said he was retiring after the 2012 Olympics, but many in the swim community expect him to make a comeback before the 2016 Summer Games. Phelps is 11 months younger than Lochte.
Lochte starred in a short-lived reality show for “E!” called “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?” earlier this year. Its ratings were disappointing. He also made a cameo appearance on “30 Rock” and appeared on People magazine’s 2012 “Sexiest Man Alive” list.
Lochte has been on the cover of Time, Vogue, and Men’s Health magazines and has more than a million followers on Twitter (@ryanlochte).
