Friday night's high school football heroes include Leesville Road QB

Player of the week: Malcolm Hitchcock of Leesville Road made his first start at quarterback and rushed for four touchdowns and passed for another in a 42-14 victory over Broughton. He finished with 231 rushing yards.

Play of the week: Tony Kirkwood of Corinth Holders intercepted a two-point conversion attempt to preserve a 33-32 victory over previously undefeated Franklinton.

Defense of the week: Panther Creek. The Catamounts stuffed Cary’s running game, limiting the Imps to 94 yards on 32 attempts. Panther Creek did not allow a passing completion.

Special team player: Rasheem Easton of Middle Creek blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown in the Mustangs’ 26-14 win over Green Hope.

This week’s number: 6 Nyheim Hines scored six touchdowns in a 62-21Greater Neuse 4A victory over West Johnston. He ran for five touchdowns and caught a 79-yard scoring pass from Brighton Hudson. He also had a scoring punt return nullified by a penalty.

Richard Landis, North Raleigh Christian: Completed 23 of 32 passes for 409 yards and six touchdowns in a 58-19 win against Lake Pine Prep. James Wilson had five catches for 164 yards and Daniel Rose had 12 for 159 yards.

Ti Pinnix, Pittsboro Northwood: Completed 27 of 40 of passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns in a 79-28 victory over Cedar Ridge.

Sean Bowman, South Granville: Ran for 234 yards as the Vikings defeated East Wake 45-33 in a non-conference game.

Tray Staten, Holly Springs: Rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-12 victory over Athens Drive. Jordan Kornegay had five catches for 166 yards and two scores.

Cole Sakowski, Corinth-Holders: Completed 11 of 25 passes for 261 yards in a 33-32 win against Franklinton.

Patrick Kearney, Broughton: Completed 23 of 43 passes for 201 yards in a 42-14 loss to Leesville Road.

Matt Koehler, Sanderson: Drove the Spartans 99 yards in the final three minutes and scored his third touchdown on a 12-yard run with five seconds left for a 20-14 win against Heritage.

Kendal Hinton, Southern Durham: Passed for 210 yards and rushed for 65 yards in a 59-20 win against Chapel Hill.

Shawn Stankavage, Cardinal Gibbons: Completed 14 of 20 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown in a 46-21 win against Oxford Webb.

Nathaniel Harvey, Knightdale: Ran for 161 yards in a 52-27 victory over Clayton.

Jace Brown, Clayton: Gained 172 yards in a 52-27 loss to Knightdale.
