DURHAM — Police announced Tuesday an arrest in the shooting death of a 19-year-old man in April.
Investigators took Rakeem Montel Best into custody around noon and charged him with murder, according to police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
Best, 20, of Durham, is one of three people charged with the slaying of JeJuan Jonteil Taylor, 19, of Durham.
It was shortly after 9 p.m. on April 18 when police were notified of a shooting at the Duke Manor Apartments in the 300 block of South LaSalle Street. Police found Taylor shot to death inside of a vehicle parked outside one of the buildings at the complex, Michael said.
Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive, but charges against two of the people charged in April indicated that robbery played a role in the shooting. In addition to murder, police charged Hope Farley, 19, of Durham and Thomas Antwan Clayton, 21, of Morrisville with one count each of conspiring to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, Michael said.
Best is being held at the Durham County jail without benefit of bail, Michael said. Farley and Clayton have been in jail since April without benefit of bail, court records show.
