Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Buxton/Hatteras

Fishing has slowed significantly. Puppy drum are biting at the jetties and off the pier. Contact: Red Drum Tackle 252-995-5414, www.hatteras-island.com; offshore news, Oden’s Dock 252-986-2555, www.odensdock.com; or www.hatterasharbor.com.

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Puppy drum, blue fish, sea mollusks, grey trout, tuna and wahoo have been biting offshore Contact: Tradewinds Bait & Tackle 252-928-5491, www.fishtradewinds.com; Morris Marina 252-225-4261, www.portsmouthislandfishing.com.

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Wahoo fishing has been excellent offshore. Spanish mackerel, false albacore and king mackerel are biting nearshore. In the creeks, trout and drum have been abundant. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; Portside Marina 252-726-7678; www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

Blue and Spanish mackerel have been caught off the pier and surf. Spot, pompano, Virginia mullet and flounder have also been spotted off the pier and surf. Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, blue fish, and flounder have been biting from the beach offshore to 20 miles out. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

King mackerel, Spanish mackerel, flounder, drum and whiting have been found in the area. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; www.yeahrightcharters.com; or www.oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass up toward New Life Creek are biting off crank and slow roll spitters. Catfish are around the channels down the lake are hitting off night crawlers and livers. Crappie are biting at around 8-10 feet deep, hitting minnows and crappie jigs. White bass are schooling north. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 251.18, full pool 264.8. Jordan Lake

Crappie are biting deep into the water. Stripers are also hitting in the area. Catfish are being caught deeper in the water. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 216, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Whiting and crappie are biting at around 40 feet deep off jigs. Catfish are also hitting off live bait. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 298.69, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Lake Wheeler

Shearon Harris Lake

Crappie are biting at variable depths off suspended minnows, crappie minnows or jig heads. Largemouth bass have also been caught off suspended, vertical jigging spoons. On secondary points, they have been biting off medium diving crank baits during early morning hours in top water over grass.
