Car hauled from depths of Mass. reservoir

Published: October 10, 2013

— State police have hauled a submerged car from the second largest body of water in Massachusetts that may have been there since the 1970s.

The Chevrolet Monte Carlo was discovered Wednesday in an arm of the Wachusett Reservoir in central Massachusetts by state workers clearing the invasive weed milfoil from the 4,100-acre body of water.

The car was found in West Boylston in an area known as Thomas Basin.

Police tell The Republican newspaper (http://bit.ly/15WTFLK ) they think it has been there since the 1970s because it has intact registration and inspection stickers from that era.

Police said they were attempting to track down the car's owner and trying to determine how and why it ended up in the water.

The reservoir is about 45 miles west of Boston.
