Wis. sailor might appear in latest Tom Hanks film

Published: October 11, 2013

— A Fond du Lac graduate who serves on a naval ship targeting pirates might appear in the new Tom Hanks movie, "Captain Phillips."

The Reporter Media (http://fondul.ac/GRIs48 ) says Rick Stansbury was deployed aboard a destroyer that served in the Arabian Gulf for 19 months.

The movie's producers wanted to film ocean scenes aboard a real Navy destroyer and with a real crew. So Stansbury and his fellow seamen spent two weeks with Hanks and the film crew.

The Fond du Lac High School graduate filmed scenes in which he steers the ship, hoists smaller boats into the water and handles ropes and lines. He's not sure whether any scenes will be in the final movie, but he and his family look forward to finding out when it opens Friday.
